Managing Remote Work Risks in Government Contracting

The rise of remote work has been transformative, but for government contractors, it introduces new compliance risks. Employees working from home may be more likely to access sensitive systems over unsecured networks, increasing the risk of data leakage or unauthorized access.

Compliance frameworks such as the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) require specific safeguards when handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). For organizations supporting defense contracts, home offices can become points of vulnerability if not properly secured.

To address this, some companies are adopting purpose-built environments that isolate CUI and enforce strict access controls. A CMMC enclave provides a structured, compliant digital space where remote employees can safely work without compromising sensitive information.

These enclaves enable centralized control over access, encryption, logging, and data storage—even in decentralized work environments. As remote work becomes the norm rather than the exception, maintaining compliance must include planning for secure remote access.
